Are you bored or unfulfilled with your current job and are thinking of changing career paths? Perhaps the long commute from your College Park condos has just become too much for you and you want a job where the constant travel is far less. Whatever the case may be, you might want to consider a career in real estate. A job as a real estate agent in Canada, be it selling modern house plans or a Vancouver real estate agent, can be quite the rewarding and profitable experience. If you're the type of person who enjoys going to open houses or helping out friends and family members finding a new home, then a career in real estate would be an excellent choice.
A lot of people might not know this or it's one of the many features that appeals to them when becoming a real estate agent, but you don't actually need to have a post-secondary degree in order to become a real estate agent. Most people out there selling Calgary condos or homes for sale in Edmonton don't have a college or university degree. There aren't that many jobs in which a person can make hundreds of thousands of dollars without having to go to college or university. However, you do need to have graduated at least from high school and have a high school diploma or its equivalent. The other basic requirements of becoming a real estate agent in Canada, in addition to being a high school graduate, are that you need to be at least 18 years old, and speak fluent in English. However, speaking French, especially in Quebec, is also a good thing.
After that, each province has it's own set of requirements in order to become a fully accredited real estate agent. That means taking a course and learning about the art of real estate with the end goal of taking an exam and getting your realtor's license. Any good Edmonton or Toronto real estate brokers will tell you how invaluable the training they received is. There is so much to know about real estate and all the different branches of real estate. So, you have to be serious if you want to become a real estate agent. It's not a cakewalk. You need to be informed about the provincial course requirements because each course requirements from province to province are different.
Once you figure out the requirements for your province, you can start registering for courses. Eventually you will complete the required courses and be on your way to becoming a real estate agent. You will most likely need to take an exam in order to obtain your realtor's license. Don't sweat it too much. If you took your courses seriously, you'll be fine.
After everything is said and done you will officially become a real estate agent in Canada. That doesn't mean you can go out and represent a home owner looking to list their Oakville home for sale. You need to get hired by a real estate firm first. Which means you have to market yourself. Once that is done, and all the required licenses or documents have been procured or registered for, and all criminal checks have been performed, then you can go out and sell houses. Good luck!
